Purple is Catie’s power color

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

On the first day of November (almost a month ago) Catie and I used up our last bucket of ColorBank paint – this time to paint one of our bedroom walls purple. I wasn’t sure about the color at first but I must admit it looks fantastic in the morning when the sun streams in through our balcony window. I’m kind of sad we’re out of paint to be honest. Maybe I can convince Catie to go back with me and get a bucket each of orange and green…

Inaugural Bengali sickness, and the inevitable effect

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

Last Monday I had the pleasure of experiencing my first real taste of Bengali sickness as I woke up in the morning with that distinct “I think I might throw up today” feeling. I proceeded to throw up four times, get extremely dehydrated, and develop a 103 degree fever will spare you the details, but after one particularly rough day and two more uneventful bed-ridden ones I found myself able to walk steadily enough around the apartment again. One result of this lovely episode (in addition to sadly missing a planned second trip with Mow to the Chittagong slums) was that I became extremely shaggy. Catie’s been really busy working lately so in a moment of desperate boredom I decided to finally do something about my appearance, and make the most of the chore in the form of another stop-motion video.

Cashing in at the ColorBank

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

We found a hardware store in Chittagong a couple weeks ago called “ColorBank” that sells paint, and the perfection of the name (coupled with the ugliness of our pale vomit-green walls) pushed us to buy a liter each of the brightest colors they had available (blue, pink, and purple) to paint some of the walls in our apartment. So far we’ve done one big wall blue and two medium sized walls pink. Naturally, this also means we’ve made three stop-motion painting videos.

You’re using your left hand?! Oh, right, mirrors.

Well, after our trip to Malaysia and a busy few days back in Chittagong since, I have about a hundred things to write about and somewhere well above a thousand photos to select from and post, but for the moment the easiest subject is my new Bengali haircut! I didn’t like my odds with the local barbers so I decided to employ Catie instead, and she did a great job! It also provided a great opportunity to make a stop-motion video with my camera.
