i don't think i find this nearly as repugnant as you would expect me to. there is something almost beautiful in the way the animals are thought of as giving up their lives for some ritual purpose other than for someone to mindlessly eat them as a hamburger, and also in the fact that they're killed individually, with (i imagine) some of the people who might be eating them later looking on. i also appreciate the fact that it's done in a way intended to be as quick and painless as possible (even if that isn't really always the case). it's so much better to be able to look at these photos and appreciate the fact that meat comes from living, breathing creatures who gave up their life energy for us to take on as our own. i think all americans should have to kill animals this way if they wanted to eat them, and then i would have (almost) no problem with anyone eating meat. and that's my crazy hippie vegetarian rant for the day. sorry.

beautiful photos, dan. i love the lighting in the black and white sheep one, and in the one with the flies.
it really is mind boggling how quickly these images go from cow to steak- not to be crude or anything- but that's what I'm seeing- there really is very little distance between the two.
